Elizabeth Taylor’s Yellow Diamond Helps Set Auction Record

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, especially when it comes to Elizabeth Taylor. While she left behind a large catalogue of amazing films throughout her career, she also accumulated an enormous collection of jewels that were auctioned off at Christie’s this week. Amongst the rubies, emeralds and sapphires was a Lorraine Schwartz 27.42 carat intense yellow diamond ring that fetched a total of $2,098,500! The ring was originally purchased by Taylor in 2002 when she invited Schwartz to the annual amFar charity gala in Cannes. This sparkling bauble helped to set a record for the most valuable private collection of jewels at $115.9 million, beating the Duchess of Windsor’s pieces in 1987. Now that’s something only an icon can offer!
